Profile: Catherine Cunning, Kindergarten Teacher

Catherine teaches Kindergarten at Alta Vista. Before joining our school, she taught K-8 Spanish and third grade at a charter school in her hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. She lives in San Francisco now and enjoys walking the hills and hiking trails outside of town. We recently caught up with Catherine to pose a few questions:

If you weren’t a teacher, what profession would you pursue?

An artist.

What is your favorite thing about being a teacher at Alta Vista?

Getting to know and love amazing children every day!

What is your favorite place in the Bay Area to go for a walk?

I love to walk from my house to Ghiradelli Square, through Aquatic Park up to Fort Mason, and along Marina Green.

If you could have a year’s supply of totally healthy cotton candy, what flavor would you choose?

Strawberry. Yum!

What one book would you like to insist that every one of your students read?

“The Hundred Dresses.” It has such an important message that we can all relate to.
