Homemade Clinometers
Students in Ms. Keleshian's Mathematical Modeling course applied their knowledge of trig operators in order to estimate the height of buildings and trees that surround our school on the Mission Campus. They made their own protractor clinometer in order to measure the angle of elevation of the object, then measured their distance from the object, and finally used the tangent operator in order to approximate the height of the object at hand.
