Please read more below in a message from the Singh's on ways you can participate and contribute.
Hello AVS Community! Diwali, India’s beloved Festival of Light is celebrated this year on Thursday, October 19th. This celebration of light and all that it symbolizes is something our family loves to embrace so Luca from 1A and Stella of JK have decided that they would like to host a celebration at AVS and invite all of you to join in! Students, teachers, parents, and siblings please join us for a special morning meeting on Thursday, October 19th from 8:30am-9:00am in the meeting room where we will experience the spirit of Diwali together. We will spark the ideas of light replacing darkness, good triumphing over evil, knowledge diminishing ignorance and celebrate the power that true friendship has to spread positivity between one another. The spirit of Diwali will be briefly discussed but experienced mostly through Indian music and movement, vibrant colors worn and adorned, enjoying the tastes of India and of course, all amongst the symbolic sight of spreading light. There will be a chai and an Indian snack set out for parents to enjoy from 8am so come early if you like. The children will be offered Mango Lassi at their snack time later in the morning. We really welcome your participation in this celebration if you would like to join in. It would be helpful to have at two parents per class to help that morning with with adorning the children with colorful scarfs that will be provided so that our meeting room is filled with the vibrant colors of India. If you attend, please get a scarf for your child and help them wear it as they wish. We will be wearing them as scarves, turbans or any other safe way the kids want to wear them. This will happen as the children enter AVS so early parents are needed for this as we hope to have each child wearing their scarf before the bell sounds and they get into their usual class rows for morning meeting. We will also need help decorating the meeting room on Tuesday and/or Wednesday mornings and an adult or two to man the food/chai table on the day. We hope you can all join us for this morning meeting so that we can have some fun together and start our day off collectively with our children, radiating light and positivity from AVS and outward as far as we possibly can. Please reach out with any questions or if you would like to participate. With love, Luca, Stella, Jessi and Jennifer Singh
