Our month-long dedication to community service culminated with a purposeful gathering of families from the Portola neighborhood schools to provide some relief to people experiencing homelessness. Our first neighborhood service project, "Suds from the Heart," drew a large crowd of students and their families from AVS and other local schools, such as San Francisco Independent School, E.R. Taylor, and Chinese American, to fill bottles of shampoo and conditioner to donate to unhoused residents. Participants expressed much gratitude for the neighborhood to be able to come together in such a meaningful way.
Good Social launched their social networking app, which connects families to volunteer opportunities in the Bay Area, during our event. Lava Mae, a SF nonprofit that provides mobile showers, collected two large boxes of shampoo and conditioner to donate.
Big thanks to all the families and teachers who helped to make our first neighborhood service project a huge success! A special thanks to our Chair of Outreach, Jenn Pliner, who envisioned and executed "Suds from the Heart" with the Lava Mae team, Good Social founders, and AVS volunteers.
