Profile: Jon Polly, 4th Grade Science Teacher

Jon Polly

Fourth grade teacher Jon Polly hails from Seymour, Indiana. He loved math and science when he was in elementary school and went on to study Oceanography and Public Affairs at Indiana University. He is father to a couple of clown fish and a basslet. We managed to catch up with Jon (which isn’t that easy, he has run 6 marathons and 2 ultra-marathons), and we posed him a few questions.

What is your favorite amusement park ride?

The Beast, a wooden roller coaster at King’s Island.

What event or activity in the next 4 months are you looking forward to more than anything else?

AIDS/LifeCycle! I will be biking from San Francisco to Los Angeles!

If you could try to break a world record in anything what would you try?

Dancing the most hours.

What is your favorite “juicy” word?


If you could safely take a ride on the back of any wild animal, which would you most like to ride?

A dolphin

If you could bring to life any imaginary creature, which would you choose?

A unicorn.

What one book would you like to insist that every one of your students read?

The Giving Tree.

If you could invite one famous person to speak to the AVS Community at morning meeting, who would you choose?

Neil DeGrasse Tyson.
