Block play is an excellent and authentic way to help strengthen a child's mathematical mindset. This type of play supports general problem solving, planning, and organizational skills, as well as key mathematical concepts including length, measurement, comparison, number, estimation, symmetry, balance. Some of my favorite building tools include the Kapla Blocks and the ZomeTool (as seen at Family Math Night), and good ol' Legos. However, various household materials also offer a plethora of opportunities to explore these same concepts. As always feel free to choose between the different categories and discover the activities that spark your child's creative juices.
