Last Monday, the first grade team presented the next Engineering Challenge focused on game design. First grade teachers Joy and Katie provoked students to create and engineer an arcade, yard game, or handheld game using recycled cardboard or paper products (NO plastic or glue). The goal is to bring cardboard to life by designing a game with simple materials that can be used inside and outside school. Another goal of the challenge is to promote healthy, active, and engaged brains. If the game's design gives the player a chance to move and calm down from a conflict, even better.
The final exhibition will take place on Monday, April 8. Classrooms will choose 1 - 2 model(s) from each grade, which will then be placed around the school, such as the meeting room, library, hallways, and outside picnic tables. We look forward to seeing our students' making and tinkering skills come to life over the next few weeks! Models will be used in classrooms for indoor recess and brain breaks.
