Fourth Graders Prepare to Teach First Graders about Bacteria in Upcoming Expo

First graders are traveling back 2.5 billion years to 640 million years ago in their studies to learn about the Proterozoic eon. They will explore the single cell organisms, bacteria, and algae that lived in the first oceans. During this time period, scientist theorized that oxygen was first produced as a result of photosynthesis of the blue-green strands of algae or cyanobacteria.

To learn more about the science behind single-celled organisms and bacteria, our fourth graders created interactive exhibits and games to teach first graders in an upcoming Bacteria Expo on December 18. Some of the projects include bacterial cell models using MaKey MaKey, an Uno-inspired card game that incorporates interesting facts about bacteria and the diseases they cause, and multiple bacteria-centered games that use Scratch and MaKey MaKey.
