History of Science: Historical Reenactment

Middle Schoolers at Alta Vista have the opportunity to learn design thinking, collaboration and the way scientific ideas have shifted over time in the school's History of Science course.

To cap off their astronomy unit, fall HOS students analyzed several primary-source documents from Galileo’s Inquisition, researched student-generated questions about the trial, and chose their favorite aspects of his trial to reenact. Students (above) enjoyed using the room’s furniture to recreate the scene of Galileo’s Sentence.

At the end of Galileo’s Sentence reenactment, students passed around their copies of documents to sign, just as cardinals had done at the original trial.
