Making Flashlights in Third Grade

Third grade students applied their knowledge of parallel and series circuits to make flashlights with Ms. Erika in Science. They found ways to make their flashlights brighter and determined what variables made the greatest difference.

Last week, they also learned how to send messages using electricity via a telegraph system between third and fourth grade classrooms -- an AVS first.

They also made a surprising discovery about cereal that led them into the study of magnetism and its relationship with electricity. Once they understand what makes something magnetic, they will be able to make their own compasses.
