This week the Lower School launched the healthy community lunch program in partnership with MUMSA and supported by parent volunteers. As is often the case when new things are introduced, children can be fickle to give them a try. But sometimes things work out just right and the “new” is accepted broadly. For the most part, the meal was met with open arms. The meeting room was abuzz with students politely passing the family style bowls and plowing into their healthy butternut squash mac and cheese with grilled broccoli and an abundance of salad. AVS students requested seconds and thirds of salad at nearly every table. One student even said “Thanks for letting this happen, it’s one of the best things to happen at AVS.” Other reviews included Check out the student reviews: “Best lunch ever at school.”, “Ten thumbs for the mac and cheese.”, “I was in broccoli heaven” and “I would seriously give Mumsa a five-star rating on Yelp!” We will continue to track reactions, but a great start has given some positive momentum to the program launch. The community seemed to leave the meal healthy and happy.
