Connecting Art and Math

by Diana Ramzy, Math Teacher

At AVS Middle School students created pictures of their choice using their knowledge of the coordinate graph, reflections of points around the x and y-axis and connected it to linear function and its translations. This project allowed students to start their work independently, while providing opportunities for students to extend their learning and investigate equations of lines and other functions.

Throughout this project, students navigated from the concrete level to the abstract level of knowledge as they grew more invested in their work and started researching different types of formulas that will create circles or waves. By the end of the project, students displayed their pictures and shared their process with classmates.
