What physical object can you tinker to improve a real ‘problem’ here at AVS? During our Monday Morning Meeting, Jon Polly, fifth-grade science teacher and Art and Tinkering specialist, Sarah McNutt, modeled how engineering challenges work at AVS.
This year, teachers and students in grades first through fifth will work together to craft a design challenge for the school and present their idea at a Morning Meeting. Following the introduction to the challenge, students in grades JK-5 will be invited to prototype, test, and iterate their solutions before the final test run during a Morning Meeting a few weeks later.
The first Lower School Engineering Challenge of this school year opened today and the exhibition of the challenge will be held about a month later on Monday, October 18.
