Our Teaching Team
What is the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Program?
The TK/JK program at the Alta Vista School offers children the opportunity to develop social emotional and academic skills before beginning their Kindergarten year (students must be 5 by Spring 2020). The class has a 6:1 student teacher ratio with 2 credentialed teachers and 10-12 students in the classroom. The talented and experienced teachers have created a STEAM focused, hands-on, modified Kindergarten curriculum. The program is designed to immerse students in activities that are developmentally engaging and build confidence in young learners. Our teachers inspire self-motivation while nurturing children’s natural love of learning. Children also learn how to actively listen and participate within a group, recognize and articulate their personal needs, and those of others, in order to build perspective and empathy.
A Day in the Life of Transitional Kindergarten
The school day begins at 8:25am and ends at 3:25pm. Weeks in TK/JK consist of a whole school community meetings twice a week, children led current event presentations, math, science, literacy, rest time, circle of friends (SEL), library, Spanish, music, art, drama, PE and garden. The class conclude their day
with a closing circle. We also enjoy several field trips throughout the school year and service learning is a piece of our program that we value deeply.

Avoid the Complicated Kindergarten Process
The Kindergarten application process in San Francisco, can be stressful and time consuming. Families that join us in TK/JK flow into our Kindergarten program without an additional application or screening.
Touring our Program
We hold weekly tours throughout the year. Please complete an inquiry form from our website and will be happy to provide you with a tour of our campus.
